Good Year?

The Internal — Private Collection

The Goodyear Blimp has floated over American life for a century — a symbol of spectacle, celebration, and the particular brand of optimism that assumes there will always be something worth watching from above.

This one is barely visible. The haze has gotten into everything.

Since 2020 the question has stopped being rhetorical. Pandemic, political fracture, environmental collapse, economic anxiety — the blimp is still up there somewhere, but the writing has changed. It doesn't announce anything anymore. It just asks.

Painted in oil with swirling crimson and orange atmospheric brushwork, the surface moves the way smoke moves — directionless and total.

This work is held in the artist's private collection and is not available for sale.
