The Pacific Northwest is burning more than it used to. So is the rest of the world. This painting is a response to that accumulating reality — not a specific fire, but the pattern of them. The char, the absence, the silence of a forest that has been through something.

But the ground is already moving. Small flowers push through the scorched earth at the base of the trees — yellow, red, insistent. The forest doesn't know it's supposed to wait.

Painted in acrylic, the surface combines soft atmospheric tree forms with textured, worked ground — the contrast between the two is intentional.
